Michael Strukoff

Michael is the longest serving director at gfcu and is currently serving as the Board Chair. Along with this responsibility, he sits on the gfcu Human Resources and Governance Committee. Our credit union also owns two subsidiaries with other partners in the Kootenay Region:
  1. 1. Kootenay Risk Services, which provides anti-money laundering services, regulatory support, and (soon) commercial loan generation to its owner credit unions.
  2. 2. MoneyWorks, which provides wealth management for credit union members across the region.
  3. Michael is the Board Chair of both of these subsidiaries.
Michael has also been a leader in our recent collaborative efforts with five Boundary, Kootenay, and Columbia Valley credit unions on the goal of amalgamating into one regional credit union. Should a new credit union be formed, Michael has been selected as the inaugural Board Chair. It should be noted that no such process would occur without the approved consent of our membership.

Beyond his life with gfcu, Michael is a true local. Born in Grand Forks, he is a graduate of GFSS. He holds a B.Ed from UBC, an MA from Gonzaga, and an MA from Royal Roads. He retired as Superintendent of Schools of the Boundary School District after a 38-year career in education. His wife, Marilyn, is a retired teacher and he has two adult sons and one grandson. Needless to say, Michael has been a lifelong member of the gfcu.

In his words: "Credit unions give back in a big way: re-investing members' deposits into the local communities, sharing their profits with their members, providing scholarships, donating to community initiatives and events, as well as supporting youth activities and our community foundation. These are practices I'm incredibly proud of and fully support."
