Since 1949

2019 marked our 70th year as the Grand Forks Credit Union (gfcu). In August of 1949, 19 local people with a little money and a lot of vision joined together and embarked upon this incredible journey. Seven decades later, their efforts have been recognized as far more than the building blocks of creating a financial institution. The modest beginnings of gfcu led to more than anyone could have imagined, such as millions of dollars in local grants, donations, and scholarships, as well as thousands of volunteer hours and quality employment for hundreds of local people.

We have unquestionably changed and grown over the years, but what keeps us true to the vision created on day one is our dedication to the co-operative principles. Operating a co-operative financial institution is truly what sets us apart from the big banks. We are member owned and member directed, and we’re incredibly thankful to this supportive community. The journey has been tremendous, and we look forward to the future!

To all of our members – Thank You!

Celebrating 70 Years

To help celebrate the 70th anniversary of gfcu, we wanted to find a creative way to support those who support us. To do so, we purchased 70 different $70 gift cards from local member businesses. Once we had a broad range of gift cards (from baked goods to bike parts to pizza to pet food), we thought of fun ways for our members to win them.

The goal was to get creative in giving the cards away, so we ran all sorts of contests through the branch and online. Our team got to have a little fun setting everything up and, of course, it always feels great to give away some prizes! Some members won by following our social media, some by withdrawing exactly $70 from their account, some by rolling the dice with our team (as seen in the image), and some won in other entertaining ways.
