David Turner

David has served on our Board since 2015. He currently sits on the Human Resource and Governance Committee as well as the Credit and Market Risk Committee, and is the Chair of the Conduct Review Committee. He has completed all the required training and has remained current with matters specific to rising issues for the gfcu, such as the Board’s role and responsibility in response to cyber attacks. He is also the Vice Chair of the Community Futures Boundary Board and a board member of The Kettle Valley Food Co-op.

David was born in Toronto, grew up in Saskatoon and Regina, and moved to Port Coquitlam after finishing high school. He worked seasonally for the CPR, from 1968 to 1974, then permanently until his retirement in 2006 as the Manager of Track Programs and Equipment in British Columbia. David and his wife, Jan Westlund, a retired Program Director for various NGOs, moved to Grand Forks in 2009. They are developing their property into a garlic, raspberry, and walnut farm. They have two adult daughters and one grandson.

In his words: "It has been a privilege to serve the members of gfcu with my fellow board members. The Board strives to ensure that all our actions have a direct link to strategic and governance goals that best serve members of the credit union and the communities we do business in."
