Alan Peterson

Alan was born in Creston, raised in Courtenay and Victoria, and graduated from UVIC and UBC. He joined the Victoria law firm of McConnan Bion O’Connor & Peterson in 1976 and practiced there until retiring in 2012. When he and his wife Lori decided to move to Grand Forks from Victoria nine years ago, they were motivated by the appeal of living in a small town, the friendliness of the community, and the many opportunities to enjoy outdoor recreation and participate in community activities.

Alan’s law practice in Victoria was mainly focused on advising small businesses and credit unions. From 1984, Alan acted as Head Office Counsel and Corporate Secretary of Island Savings Credit Union, (one of the largest credit unions on the island) and held that role until retirement. He also acted for a number of smaller credit unions, including Greater Victoria Savings, Chemainus and District Credit Union, and Victoria Labour Council Credit Union.

Since moving here, Alan has been involved in a number of local groups, including serving as a Board Member and past Chair of Community Futures Boundary, Secretary Treasurer of the Christina Lake Golf Club, a member and past President of the Grand Forks Rotary Club, and Board Member of the Phoenix Foundation.

He has also served on the Boards of the Grand Forks Curling Club and the Grand Forks Trails Society.

Alan’s past training and experience gives him the opportunity to make a positive contribution to gfcu Board as they move forward to meet the challenges ahead. We are honored to have Alan serving as a Director of Grand Forks Credit Union.

In his words: “Being focused on today's challenges and learning how best to meet them is critical; to ensure we as members have a credit union that can adapt to this changing world, that is big enough to be financially viable long term, while maintaining our connection to the Grand Forks community.”
