gfcu Staff in 2021

Regardless of the ups and downs brought about by the pandemic, the team here at gfcu had a rather notable year and found a number of ways to improve the business, themselves, and our community.

While there are certainly a number of training and education requirements at gfcu, our staff logged some serious hours on training and education through 2021, taking courses above and beyond the requirements. The main source of education available to our staff is found through the CCUA (Canadian Credit Union Association) Campus, which is host to the formalized training and accreditation that all Canadian credit unions participate in. These courses are university level, often run through Dalhousie University, and are no easy feat – they require serious time and effort both on the clock and off the clock. With that in mind, we are proud to say that the team here at gfcu completed more than 50 courses in 2021, representing an approximately $8,000 investment in education and continual improvement, driven by the staffs own desire to grow.

These courses represent only part of the puzzle, as there were countless other webinars, courses, and external learning efforts put forward. When you join all this new knowledge with the team's more than 500 combined years of credit union experience, it becomes clear why gfcu is a leading community institution.

Of course, we are not only in the business of banking, but the business of community building – and again, staff led their own charge in 2021. Through several initiatives including raffles, book sales, walks, and more, staff managed to raise over $10,000 for local groups and causes. Even during a full year of the pandemic, with limited events, there was no stopping them.

The Board and Management want to give a sincere shoutout to the entire staff team. 2021 was no easy year, but the resilience and desire to continue living our organizational values has been more than impressive. It’s hard to imagine any better combination of people – thank you to all gfcu staff, and we know that you will continue leading by example for years to come.
